March 21, 2001--The most recent of three epc (engineering, procurement, and construction) projects awarded to Black & Veatch by Escambia County Utilities Authority (ECUA) is a $6 million renovation of the 20-year-old process train in its Pensacola Beach, FL wastewater treatment plant.
The other two EPC projects for ECUA are the Bayou Marcus Water Reclamation Facility completed in 1998, and the fluidized bed sludge dryer that went online in late 2000. Because of the Pensacola Beach facility's location near a popular recreational area, ECUA has elected to go beyond the state's current discharge requirements.
Chlorine disinfection will be replaced by UV to eliminate chlorine from the effluent, and denitrification filters are being added.
The project is on a fast track schedule, having begun October 1, 2000, and due online by the end of October 2001.
