STERLING, Va., Oct. 30, 2001 — Sutron Corporation has been awarded a $279,700 Phase I contract by the US-Mexico International Boundary and Water Commission to modernize the existing hydrological data collection network for the Hydrographic Data Collection Rehabilitation Project.
A $230,000 contract for Phase II will be awarded in the near future.
By Treaty, the international land boundary between the United States and Mexico extends over 1,952 miles, westward from the mouth of the Rio Grande River on the Gulf of Mexico to just upstream of El Paso, Texas, and Juarez, Chihuahua, westward along the New Mexico-Chihuahua and Arizona-Sonora state boundaries to the Colorado River, thence along the California-Baja California state boundary to the Pacific Ocean.
The Hydrographic Data Collection Rehabilitation Project's objective is to improve the timeliness and reliability of data collection and provide real-time data that will improve efficiencies in international water accounting, water deliveries, flood operations, and drought management.
In Phase I Sutron will enhance and replace the existing telemetry system for most of the Rio-Grande Basin. Phase II will address acquisition, installation, and implementation of equipment along the remaining portions of the Rio Grande and along the Western Boundary streams including the Lower Colorado River, Tijuana River, and Whitewater Draw.
