CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla., April 11, 2003 - CHAMPS Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) Solution was selected by Bechtel National, Inc. to manage its capital assets during construction, start-up and operations of the Waste Treatment Plant (WTP) in Richland, Washington.
CHAMPS Software, Inc. (CHAMPS) announced it has commenced the implementation of its EAM at the WTP. Bechtel National, Inc. is designing, building and commissioning a complex of radioactive waste treatment plants to immobilize radioactive waste in stable glass.
The U.S. Government produced plutonium for nuclear weapons at Hanford from WWII through the Cold War. Today there remains a deadly legacy - 53 million gallons of radioactive and chemical wastes stored in 177 underground tanks. Turning this waste into a sturdy glass, a process known as vitrification, is an unprecedented engineering and construction challenge.
Bechtel National, Inc. is designing and building facilities to vitrify Hanford's toxic tank wastes by blending it with molten glass and placing it in stainless steel canisters. The waste remains stable and impervious to the environment while its radioactivity dissipates over hundreds to thousands of years.
CHAMPS is implementing the EAM solution to deploy the application for one of the largest construction projects currently in progress in the United States.
"CHAMPS' extensive expertise and experience in EAM business will add great value for our customers in tackling a very complex environmental challenge," said Chandra Patel, President/CEO, CHAMPS Software. "CHAMPS will create additional value for the customers by providing consulting, customization and integration services."
