E-commerce pioneer Dan Gillean, Jr. to lead new division for National Water & Power

National Water & Power, a utility billing and resident care services provider, has chosen Dan Gillean Jr. as senior vice president of the company's new e-commerce services division.

SANTA ANA, Calif., May 6, 2003 -- National Water & Power, a utility billing and resident care services provider, announced Dan Gillean, Jr. will join the company as senior vice president of the company's new e-commerce services division.

Having designed NW&P's e-payment program while working as a consultant to the company for the past six months, Gillean will now have line management responsibility to complete the implementation of the program.

As senior vice president Gillean will build out the supporting e-commerce team within NW&P and be responsible for continued growth of the service offering. He will report directly to NW&P president, Bob Wolpert.

"The addition of Dan to our team marks an exciting juncture for National Water & Power," said Wolpert. "Our ability to offer customers e-commerce and e-payment options for their billing and collection services is a great step forward in terms of flexibility and customer service. Dan's experience with all aspects of e-commerce makes him an invaluable resource."

Under Gillean's leadership, NW&P's e-commerce division will implement electronic billing and payment options for many of the company's existing customers as well as offering the service to prospective clients. Potential applications for the multifamily industry will include online billing and payment for rent, parking, and storage as well as for utilities such as water, energy and refuse collection.

Gillean brings more than 25 years of experience in e-commerce software, processing and operations to the job. Prior to accepting his position with NW&P, he founded and directed numerous e-commerce operations. In 1977, Gillean co-founded Capitol Information Networks (CIN) and launched the company's remote banking and bill payment service. CIN grew to become the largest processor of bank-sponsored bill payment services in the U.S., supporting clients such as NationsBank, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, PNC, PaineWebber and Prudential Securities.

CheckFree Corporation acquired CIN in 1996 and Gillean became vice president, corporate business development, a position he held until 2001. During this period Gillean was instrumental in launching CheckFree's international division and was involved in many of CheckFree's largest acquisitions. Gillean was also a founding member of the MasterCard RPPS payments network.

After retiring from CheckFree, Gillean co-founded e-RM International and engaged in venture funding and e-commerce consulting. Gillean holds a BS in Commerce from St. Edwards University and a MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.
