HUNTSVILLE, Ala., February 26, 2004 - Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions announced the Municipality of Madrid, Spain, has chosen GeoMedia® technology as the geospatial infrastructure management solution for its irrigation system.

Madrid's Department of Irrigation Management will implement GeoMedia Professional, GeoMedia PublicWorks Manager and GeoMedia WebMap to streamline maintenance and operation workflows of the city's water network. The Web-based solution will enable the department to integrate and visualize all existing and newly created irrigation network data in a centralized, easily accessible repository.

Now, contractors, city council members and employees from Madrid's 21 municipal offices can gain access via the Web to the most up-to-date water network data, such as valve placement, damages, repairs, cost and general infrastructure maintenance, resulting in enhanced project communication, improved decision making and more efficient repairs.

With various departments, field workers and contractors using data from multiple sources at multiple locations to perform daily maintenance and updates on the irrigation system, the municipality required an open solution that contained the most up-to-date information in a single environment. The city chose GeoMedia technology for its ability to store disparate data in its native format using an industry-standard database while preserving the accuracy and reliability of the data.

The web-based solution allows workers to visualize data from any location without the need for installation of GIS software on client posts, thereby saving significant time and money. Within the GeoMedia environment, GeoMedia PublicWorks also provides advanced analysis and validation tools to verify and trace the water network, further enhancing productivity for construction, repairs and maintenance.
