WERF project looks at larger stormwater pollutants -- HOUSTON, TX, April 20, 2006 -- Urban stormwater runoff is a major contributor of pollutants to rivers, lakes, streams, and oceans. The Water Environment Research Foundation is conducting a comprehensive project to evaluate larger pollutants -- such as trash and visible debris -- in urban stormwater runoff. Walter Industries to close Mueller Water Products' Milton, Ontario facility -- TAMPA, FL, April 20, 2006 -- Walter Industries Inc. announced today that Mueller Water Products is closing its Milton, Ontario, Canada valve and hydrant manufacturing plant. Valve production at Milton will be transferred to Mueller's Chattanooga, TN, facility and hydrant production will be transferred to Mueller's Albertville, AL, plant. The Milton plant is expected to close by the end of July 2006. This plant closure is part of Walter Industries' continued facility rationalization strategy following its acquisition of Mueller Water Products. IJC releases report on public review of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement -- OTTAWA, Canada, April 20, 2006 -- Today the International Joint Commission (IJC) released a report, "Synthesis of Public Comment on the Forthcoming Review by the Federal Governments of Canada and the United States of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement." The report captures the views of more than 4,100 people and organizations who participated in a public consultation the IJC led this fall. It's the culmination of a process that began in June 2005 when the governments of Canada and the United States asked the IJC to seek the public's views on the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement and its review. The Commission held 15 public meetings around the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence basin, conducted an innovative, four-day interactive Web Dialogue and received comments by e-mail, mail, fax and telephone. GL&V contracts worth over $16.3 million for ore processing solutions in Latin America -- MONTREAL, Canada, April 20, 2006 -- Management of Groupe LaPerriere & Verreault Inc. (GL&V) is pleased to announce that the Process Group (Dorr-Oliver Eimco) was recently awarded five contracts totalling over $16.3 million [US$14.3 million] for the mining industry in Latin America. Alberta communities to benefit from over $232 million in infrastructure investment -- MEDICINE HAT, AB, April 19, 2006 -- Urban and rural municipalities in Alberta will see an improvement and increase in their public infrastructure as a result of a $176 million [US$154.8 million] investment by the Governments of Canada and Alberta. The federal and provincial governments will each contribute $88 million [US$77.4 million] to the Canada-Alberta Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (CAMRIF) -- a joint initiative that will help contribute to a better quality of life for the people of Alberta by enabling communities to improve local roads, drinking water systems and other municipal infrastructure. With matching municipal contributions, the fund is expected to reach a total value of $264 million [US$232.2 million]. Eighty percent of CAMRIF investments will be directed to projects that benefit municipalities with populations of less than 250,000, with the remaining 20 percent earmarked for Calgary and Edmonton projects. Eligible projects under the CAMRIF include water and sewage treatment, solid waste management, public transit and energy improvements to municipal buildings...

American States Water releases ratemaking decision from water rights lease -- SAN DIMAS, CA, April 19, 2006 -- American States Water Co. announces the final decision by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) on April 13 to approve the permanent lease of 5,000 acre feet of water rights to the city of Folsom by AWR's primary subsidiary, Golden State Water Company (GSWC). The CPUC also ordered that the revenues resulting from the lease shall be tracked in an interest-bearing memorandum account and invested in water utility infrastructure or plant development in the Arden and Rancho Cordova service areas in Sacramento County. Lease revenues invested in water utility infrastructure within eight years of receipt will be included in the rate base upon which GSWC earns a rate of return. Any lease revenue proceeds not invested during this period shall be allocated to customers...
