Eco-Tec chairman inducted into Hall of Distinction
PICKERING, ON, Canada, Nov. 20, 2007 -- Dr. Phillip (Rocky) Simmons was inducted into the Hall of Distinction at the University of Toronto recognizing his lifelong achievements in Chemical Engineering. On Nov. 8, 2007, Dr. Simmons joined an elite group of members that have all contributed to society through the study and application of various technologies or processes that have led to notoriety and reverence for Professional Engineering.

The Hall of Distinction is an assembly of distinguished alumni, selected for membership by their peers on the basis of their lifelong accomplishments. Members are graduates whose performances, as they followed a wide variety of career paths, have ultimately defined what is most exemplary in graduates and in the Engineering profession. They provide role models for undergraduates about to address the ever-greater challenges of a changing world.

Empowering the technology he researched while working on his University of Toronto thesis, Dr. Simmons created Eco-Tec, headquartered in Pickering, Ontario. Today, close to 40 years later, Eco-Tec has grown into an internationally recognized manufacturer of water treatment, gas processing, and chemical recovery systems.

Dr. Simmons is highly active in supporting and advising various institutions of higher learning, such as being seated as the Chair of the Board of Governors of Durham College and University of Ontario Institute of Technology. He is also on the Board of Advisors of the Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry Department at the University of Toronto.
