Drinking water contamination sensor performs well in recent EPA report

SAN DIEGO, CA, April 14, 2010 -- JMAR's BioSentry® outperformed competing online sensors and instruments in a recent EPA review of available detection technologies for low density microbial suspension detection in drinking water. Of the eight sensors tested by the EPA, only the BioSentry® was able to indicate significant visual responses to the introduction of E. coli and B. globigii into the test system at concentrations below 6x102 cfu/mL. BioSentry® was able to repeatedly detect down to concentrations of 600 cfu/mL using algorithmic functions to alert of microbial density changes not readily seen by the human eye.

Lower level concentrations of biological suspensions in water have proven difficult to detect. The capability of the BioSentry to detect these lower concentrations provides an excellent complement for micro-organism detection with TOC's and free chlorine instruments which were recommended by the EPA for water quality control in a report released in October, 2009 for biological contaminates such as E. coli and B. globigii. The synergistic and technical capabilities of the BioSentry make it a multifaceted contamination warning system, while supporting the quality monitoring component as well.
