LUTON, England, Aug. 18, 2010 -- Elster announced today that it has been awarded a contract extension from Veolia Water for the supply of Q4000 battery-powered electromagnetic meters.

The Q4000 is ideal for utility applications including network monitoring and commercial billing. The Q4000 features bi-directional pulse communications that are fully compatible with the data logging and advanced meter reading equipment used by Veolia Water. Along with low head loss, high accuracy and a fully sealed IP68 construction, the Q4000 represents a leap forward in electronic water metering.

"We were very impressed by the Q4000's 10-year battery life and sheer simplicity to set up and use," said Ian Alexander, leakage verification manager for Veolia Water.

"By eliminating the need for regular visits to replace batteries, my team can now spend more time focusing on real value-creating activities such as reducing leakage and ensuring an effective distribution of water throughout the Veolia Water region. We are delighted to extend the existing contract with Elster for the supply of Q4000 electromagnetic meters for another two years," he added.

According to Alexander, Veolia Water was particularly impressed with the Q4000's continuous 10-year battery life, which will significantly reduce its ongoing operating expenses. Veolia's previous choice of battery-powered flow meters required costly and time-consuming field visits for battery replacement.

"As water consumption has increased over recent years, demand has grown for water metering solutions capable of delivering consistently accurate measurement. In addition, organisations are under increasing commercial pressure to reduce life-cycle costs. The Q4000 has been specifically designed to meet these needs," said Perry Shead, marketing manager for Elster.
