TALLASSEE, AL, Sept. 24, 2010 -- Neptune Technology Group Inc. is pleased to announce that several Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) providers, including Sensus, Itron, and Elster, have been authorized and received technical documentation from Neptune to read the 8-digit capability of the Neptune E-Coder® solid-state absolute encoder register.

The E-Coder offers several industry-leading capabilities that have enabled this solid-state register to become the industry's leading register platform. With conventional lower resolution registers, including those with remote registration to the nearest one or ten gallons, it can be very difficult to accurately identify leaks or reverse flow conditions. AMI systems are recording and transmitting interval consumption data much more frequently and higher resolution encoder registers are required to identify consumption anomalies (leak, tamper, and reverse flow) that would go undetected by lower resolution conventional encoder registers. The 8-digit E-Coder register, providing 1/10th gallon remote reading resolution, enables high resolution monitoring for usage profiling, leak detection, and reverse flow.

A true absolute encoder, the E-Coder's visual and remote readings are accessed from the same memory, ensuring no discrepancy between the visual and remote readings. With its patented energy-harvesting design, the E-Coder does not need battery power to maintain its reading or power its Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). The LCD includes visual leak indicators, directional flow icons, and a rate-of-flow display to assist with meter sizing, installation troubleshooting, and leak detection.

In order to provide compatibility with a wider range of AMR and AMI systems, the E-Coder's standard 6-digit reading output is the same as Neptune's ProRead™ encoder. This enables those systems, unable to take advantage of the higher resolution capability, to provide a 6-digit reading for billing purposes.

Neptune Technology Group Inc., a pioneer in the development of Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) technologies for more than 43 years, is a leading provider of data collection systems which are used to read more than 72 million meters per month and offers a full line of industry-leading NSF ANSI compliant lead-free metering products to water utilities throughout North America. Since 1892 Neptune has continually focused on the evolving needs of utilities -- revenue optimization, operational efficiencies, and improved customer service. The company offers a fully integrated migration path for its utility customers to meet their needs now and in the future.
