LUDWIGSHAFEN, Germany, Apr. 26, 2011 -- BASF has inked an agreement to acquire Germany-based inge watertechnologies and its ultrafiltration membrane business.

inge watertechnologies AG is a global provider of ultrafiltration technology for the treatment of drinking water, process water, wastewater and sea water. Its range of products include ultrafiltration modules and rack designs.

Dr. John Feldmann, member of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF, said the transaction is an important step in strengthening BASF's technology. "The deal will further improve BASF's position in the water treatment industry, which is an attractive and fast-growing market and helps to improve quality of life everywhere," he said.

Financial details were not disclosed, but the deal is expected to be complete within the third quarter of 2011.

BASF acquired Ciba's water treatment business in 2009, which comprised its line of organic flocculants and coagulants. BASF said it plans to strategically bundle these water treatment products and expertise to create a strong platform that will allow the company to expand its market position.
