COOPER CITY, FL, May 18, 2011 -- Cooper City Utilities has taken first place in Florida's statewide Best Tasting Drinking Water Contest held earlier this month. Cooper City beat out nine other regional winners to earn the title as Florida's best.

Cooper City uses membrane softening, or nanofiltration, in its water treatment process. The membranes remove hardness, minerals, color and other natural organic matter typically found in groundwater. The water is then disinfected and fluoridated.

Cooper City tests its water 40,000 times a year to ensure it meets the highest drinking water standards.

"A lot of hard work goes into ensuring only the best water comes out of Cooper City faucets," said Michael Bailey, P.E., director of Cooper City Utilities. "But it's a job we love to do. Receiving recognition like this is great, but providing the best water will always be our primary mission."

Cooper City will now compete in the national Best of the Best competition to be held at AWWA's ACE11 conference and expo in Washington, DC, next month.
