RO desalination plant in Israel signs up for “energy recovery”

TEL AVIV, Israel, March 6, 2012 – Israel’s Ashod Desalination plant, set to be one of the largest seawater reverse osmosis facilities worldwide, has contracted Energy Recovery Inc’s (ERI) Pressure Exchanger (PX) energy recovery devices.

The agreement was made with IVM Minrav Sadyt, a consortium involving Spanish company Sadyt as the process technology partner and Minrav Holdings as the civil construction partner.

Upon completion, the Ashdod plant will produce approximately 430,000 m3/day (114 million gallons/day) of fresh water and ERI’s products are set for delivery this year.

The Ashdod win followed the announcement of ERI’s recent contract for the Palmachim project, one of Israel’s largest desalination plant expansion projects.

Pablo Abril Martorell, general manager of Sadyt, said: “The added value that ERI brings to projects of this magnitude is immense. We are able to achieve substantial savings in energy costs in combination with higher performance technologies.”
