Salt Lake City, UT, Aug. 21, 2012 – WesTech Engineering has signed and agreement to purchase the conventional water treatment business of Siemens Industry that includes the Microfloc and General Filter product portfolios.

Founded in 1973, WesTech is an employee-owned company specializing in the design and manufacture of process equipment for municipal water and wastewater treatment as well as industrial and minerals processing. The company employs more than 500 people throughout the United States, Brazil, China, India and South Africa.

“This is an important strategic acquisition for WesTech,” said Rex Plaizier, WesTech’s president. “They have extensive installations throughout the United States, a strong reputation, and their product lines complement WesTech’s own in a way that provides the water industry the most comprehensive solution to its water treatment needs.”

The agreement includes all active projects, associated assets and liabilities, inventory, and associated patents and trademarks, as well as the facility in Ames, Iowa. Sixty-two active employees dedicated to this business will join WesTech.

“The Microfloc and General Filter product lines are solid businesses with excellent employees, a rich history, and strong brand recognition,” said Dr. Lukas Loeffler, CEO Water Technologies, Siemens Industry Automation Division. “But these products are not a fit with our focus on portfolio differentiation, which is a key driver of our business overall.”
