Synagro recognized for environmental stewardship in biosolid composting

Synagro’s South Kern Composting Manufacturing Facility received the Silver Level Recognition for its Biosolids Management Program.

Houston, TX, Jan. 16, 2013, Synagro’s South Kern Composting Manufacturing Facility has received the Silver Level Recognition for its Biosolids Management Program (BMP) from the National Biosolids Partnership’s (NBP). This achievement signifies that Synagro’s largest biosolids composting facility meets the requirements which supports excellence in biosolids management practices, exceeds or augments regulatory compliance obligations, and presents meaningful opportunities for public participation.

This Recognition is given to Biosolids Management Programs that have completed training, developed and implemented a formal BMP based on the principles of continual improvement embodied in NBP’s environmental management systems (EMS), and has completed an NBP approved audit recognizing the BMP as ready for a third party verification audit.

Synagro’s South Kern Compost Manufacturing Facility is one of the largest commercial compost facilities utilizing air emission control devices in the United States. The 44-acre facility is a California qualified recycling facility which receives and processes recycled materials (biosolids, green and wood waste) from municipalities in the production of high-quality soil amendment products which are used by horticulturists, landscapers, nurseries, municipalities, farmers, and soil blenders for use in retail markets.

The NBP is an alliance of the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) and the Water Environment Federation (WEF) with advisory support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
