Boston, MA, Feb. 21, 2013 -- The City of Taunton, Mass. was recently selected by EPA for a 2012 Regional Industrial Pretreatment Program Excellence Award.

The pretreatment program staff of Taunton, Mass., led by Darlene Domingos, Pretreatment Coordinator, was recognized by EPA's New England Office for exceptional work in inspecting, permitting and sampling of its industrial users. The plant was among two facilities in New England acknowledged for exemplary performance during 2012.

"The professionals operating these wastewater treatment plants, as well as the municipalities and the state environmental agencies that support them, are key to keeping our environment healthy. I am proud to give them the credit they deserve," said Curt Spalding, regional administrator of EPA's New England Office.

The EPA Regional Industrial Pretreatment Program Excellence Award was established to recognize and honor employees of publicly owned wastewater treatment plants for their commitment to improving water quality through outstanding oversight of its industrial users discharging to the municipal sewer system. More often than not, and particularly with the smaller facilities, conscientious pretreatment coordinators and staff continue to perform exceptionally with limited resources.

The City of Taunton was presented the Award at the 14th Annual EPA New England Industrial Pretreatment Program Conference on Oct. 17, 2012, and was also acknowledged on Jan. 30, 2013, at the annual New England Water Environment Association Conference in Boston.
