Dutch water company Nijhuis Water Technology has acquired UK firm H2OK Water and Energy (H2OK) to help grow anaerobic digestion, waste to energy, wastewater treatment and recycling solutions in the country.

The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, follows the companies setting up a joint venture structure two years ago.

They have since worked on industrial effluent treatment projects, with H2OK supplying and installing Nijhuis Water Technology’s processes.

This included the supply of an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) anaerobic treatment plant at Sharp’s Brewery in Cornwall.

The £1 million project involved liquid from the brewery going through a three-stage treatment process. The eventual aim is for waste products to be turned into biogas to provide heat and power at the site, reducing liquid sent for local water treatment by 80%.

Nijhuis Water Technology has operated in the UK since 1978 and delivered and installed over 170 effluent treatment plants around the country.

In Spring this year Nijhuis also acquired Excellent Ozone Solutions (EOS), located in Eerbeek, which focuses on the use of ozone in the treatment of cooling and processing water.
