ALEXANDRIA, VA, Nov. 6, 2014 -- The Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) has announced that it is seeking proposals for stream restoration as a best management practice (BMP).

Many communities have found that stream restoration practices are one of the most effective ways to reduce pollutants and restore environmental habitat within their waterways. Currently there is no agreed-upon methodology within the U.S. for permitting agencies to use when assigning pollutant reduction credits to stream restoration projects.

The primary goal of this research effort is to develop a guidance document and consistent approach for regulatory agencies to use to assign pollutant reduction credits for stream restoration as a BMP. Approximately $60,000 is available to fund the research. Proposals must be received by 4 p.m. EST on December 14, 2014.

Proposers are strongly encouraged to seek additional partners, collaborators, test sites, case studies, etc., to further leverage the level of effort and funding, as well as to successfully complete the research. Additional in-cash and in-kind contributions are encouraged. The request for proposal and complete instructions are available online at http://www.werf.org/funding.
