Suez Environnement subsidiary Lyonnaise Des Eaux has been awarded a 12-year contract by the Gennevilliers Water Syndicate (SEPG) worth €639 million.

The new contract will come into effect on 1 July 2015 in the 10 localities belonging to the SEPG, which supplies water to 605,000 inhabitants.

The two major goals of this new contract are to reduce leakages and to improve the quality of the water supplied to consumers, with the ambitious target of 90% network efficiency by 2018, amounting a 50% cut in water losses.

The 1,000 km network will be equipped with 1,500 acoustic sensors to detect leaks in real time. 30 probes will also be installed to continuously measure the physical and chemical properties of the water in the network, according to Suez.

Furthermore, three optical bacteria detectors will be positioned at key points of the network to complete this system and to ensure the quality of the drinking water.

All the service data (the information sent by the sensors and probes, ongoing operations by the teams in the field, etc.) will continuously be transmitted to the Aqua 360 control centre located on the premises of the local authority.

As part of the contract, around 60,000 meters in the territory will be read remotely and a "Aquabus" mobile customer service vehicle will visit all the localities in the territory for one half-day each week in order to deliver a doorstep service to users.
