Evoqua to double manufacturing capacity, research & development footprint in MA

In an effort to meet the growing global demand for its products and services, Evoqua Water Technologies announced that it will double the capacity to produce its leading range of water treatment products at one of its key production facilities in the United States.

PITTSBURGH, PA, March 5, 2015 -- In an effort to meet the growing global demand for its products and services, Evoqua Water Technologies, a specialist in water and wastewater treatment products, systems and services, announced today that it will double the capacity to produce its leading range of water treatment products at one of its key production facilities in the United States.

Evoqua has broken ground on building a new production facility in the town of Tewksbury, Mass., to replace its existing manufacturing in nearby Lowell, Mass. The company's research and development (R&D) center in Lowell will be expanded into the vacated manufacturing space in order to accelerate commercialization of many of the new technologies under development by Evoqua.

The new R&D capabilities will include pilot production for new products prior to being placed into full manufacturing around the world. The Tewksbury facility will manufacture a range of water treatment products, including Evoqua's Ionpure®continuous electrodeionization (CEDI) modules; its new electrochemical desalination technology; and Capac® impressed current cathodic protection anodes.

The expansion is largely prompted by market demand for Evoqua's CEDI technology across the globe. The company's Ionpure CEDI technology is used in process and product water treatment where reverse osmosis alone cannot provide the high degree of purity required. It is widely used in the power, electronics and pharmaceutical industries as well as in specialty laboratories.

The Evoqua Tewksbury facility -- which employs approximately 50 production, operations support, engineering, and procurement personnel -- will be one of a dozen key production centers in the United States. During construction, an additional 30 jobs have been created in the region. Both Tewksbury and Lowell expansions are expected to be operational in the spring of 2015.
