Central Basin, Park Water extend partnership for recycled water project

March 26, 2015
Park Water Company recently announced that it has been awarded a two-year extension for its current contract to operate and maintain Central Basin Municipal Water District's E. Thornton Ibbetson Century Water Recycling Project.

DOWNEY, CA, March 26, 2015 -- Park Water Company, an investor-owned water utility delivering water service to about 126,000 people in Southeast Los Angeles County, recently announced that it has been awarded a two-year extension for its current contract to operate and maintain Central Basin Municipal Water District's E. Thornton Ibbetson Century Water Recycling Project.

The total value of the contract award is over $500,000. With this contract extension, Park Water's partnership with Central Basin to operate its 70-mile distribution system and deliver 5,000 acre-feet of recycled water annually will continue through 2017.

"Recycled water plays a pivotal role in augmenting imported water supplies in the Southeast Los Angeles County," said Central Basin Board President Robert Apodaca. "The partnership between Central Basin and Park Water is [a] demonstration of agencies working together to address the drought and provide alternative, reliable sources of water and will better position Central Basin to assess potential options for rebalancing and optimizing the Water Recycling Project and resulting benefits."

Park Water has operated Central Basin's Century water recycling system since its startup in 1992 and the Esteban Torres Rio Hondo Water Recycling System since 2014. The contract extension for the Century Project will result in greater operational effectiveness and synergies between the two recycled water systems and will support the District's efforts to streamline the establishment of an asset management program for its water recycling project.
