Utility United Utilities has followed up using Cambi’s Thermal Hydrolysis (THP) technology on a large scale at Davyhulme with two smaller orders.

The utility has awarded two contracts for Cambi’s B2-THP system at Leigh and Burnley Sewage Works via framework contractor, KMI.

While the Davyhulme installation (read WWi feature) treats 250 dry metric tons per day, the two new projects will treat 15-25 dry metric tons per day.

At the end of last year Cambi announced it had followed up its entry into the Chinese market with a second THP contract (read WWi story).

Rick Lancaster, regional sludge manager, said: “The Davyhulme project has been a great success. It does what is says on the tin and more. The output of electrical power and the quality of the biosolids product is as good as we could have expected. Now we are extending our programme of advanced digestion to a number of other sites.”
