DENVER, CO, May 1, 2015 -- The American Water Works Association (AWWA) has officially announced that Dr. Wallace "J" Nichols will serve as the opening general session speaker of the 134th Annual Conference & Exposition (ACE15), taking place June 7-10 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif.

A leading biologist and New York Times bestselling author of "Blue Mind: The Surprising Science That Shows How Being Near, In, On, or Under Water Can Make You Happier, Healthier, More Connected, and Better at What You Do," Nichols will address water professionals attending the show at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 8.

Sponsored by HomeServe, a provider of emergency repair services, Nichols will discuss the emotional, behavioral, psychological, and physical connections that draw humans to water. His bestselling book, "Blue Mind," examines the crucial relationship that humans have with water. He will also discuss recent findings in neuroscience that indicate proximity to water can improve mood, performance, health, and success.

"AWWA members naturally have a strong connection to water because of their tireless work in ensuring it's available, safe and clean," said AWWA Chief Executive Officer David LaFrance. "Dr. Nichols will explain why what water professionals accomplish every day makes the world a better place to live, work and play -- he truly speaks to why we all love water."
