May 26, 2015 -- Over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, heavy storm surges inundated many parts of Oklahoma and Texas, causing fatal and disastrous flooding across the two states.
Many cities received record-breaking rainfall, with Houston alone accumulating over 11 inches. As a result, a number of waterways stretching through these areas overflowed into several populated neighborhoods and thoroughfares.
Recent reports indicate that the storms damaged or destroyed around 1,000 homes in both states, causing thousands of residents to evacuate their properties or leaving many stranded or without power and supplies.
Authorities also estimate that the catastrophic storms killed at least 11 people and have left about 12 still missing and 30 unaccounted for throughout Oklahoma and Texas. Rescue and recovery efforts are currently underway in the affected regions.
