May 27, 2015 -- The Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) recently announced that it has awarded two new contracts to Brown and Caldwell that build upon its current nutrient research.

The first project, "Model Guidance for Developing Site Specific Nutrient Goals -- Demonstration, Boulder Creek, Colorado (LINK 2T14)," entails the research team using available monitoring data for Boulder Creek to evaluate potential nutrient management scenarios with WERF's guidance for developing waterbody-specific nutrient goals. It will demonstrate the viability of the Foundation's method for setting waterbody-specific nutrient targets in Colorado and identify key results that can be transferred to other locations in Colorado and nationwide.

The second project, "Nutrient Recovery through Urine Separation (NTRY10T15)," is a part of WERF's research through the Environmental Protection Agency's National Center for Resource Recovery and Nutrient Management. The Brown and Caldwell team is working with Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) to plan and implement urine collection and storage systems; conduct field and lab-based experiments addressing scale and odor issues associated with urine collection and storage; and construct a struvite pilot plant at HRSD.
