LAKEWOOD, CA, June 1, 2015 -- On Wednesday, May 27, the Water Replenishment District (WRD) of Southern California hosted its 11th annual Groundwater Quality Workshop, where approximately 120 water professionals representing cities, water companies and utilities from south Los Angeles County and surrounding areas came together to learn new solutions, engage with other experts, and share valuable information.

The free event covered a wide range of topics that included the latest updates on drinking water regulations; guidelines for oil and gas activities; the statewide drinking water permit; reverse osmosis lessons from advanced water treatment; an overview of WRD's programs; and the impact of drought on local groundwater resources.

Prominent speakers included Dr. Cathy Chang, WRD Senior Engineer and Water Quality Program Manager; Kurt Souza, State Water Resources Control Board, Division of Drinking Water; John Geroch, Department of Conservation, Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources; Renan Jauregui and Phil Isorena, State Water Resources Control Board, Division of Water Quality; and Everett Ferguson, WRD Senior Hydrogeologist.

"As a leader in California groundwater management for more than half a century, WRD is a valuable resource for groundwater information," said WRD Board President Sergio Calderon. "Now in its 11th year, our Annual Groundwater Quality Workshop provides groundwater purveyors with the latest information needed to help ensure a healthy groundwater source. Groundwater provides 40 percent of the water used by the 10 percent of the population of the state, which lives in our service area, and it becomes even more crucial during periods of drought."

The 2015 WRD Annual Groundwater Quality Workshop was sponsored and hosted by WRD, with lunch provided by CH2M Hill. For more information please visit www.wrd.org.
