BOSTON, MA, July 22, 2015 -- SUEZ Environnement North America, an environmental services firm, recently announced that its subsidiary United Water has received an award for innovation from the National Council for Public-Private Partnerships (NCPPP) for its wastewater operation in Nassau County, N.Y. The award ceremony took place at P3 Connect 2015 conference at The Westin Copley Place, Boston.

SUEZ began its 20-year contract with Nassau County in January 2015 to operate and manage the county's sewage treatment plants and collection system. The historic public-private partnership (P3) safeguards the environment, strengthens the quality of life in communities surrounding the treatment plants and saves the taxpayers a guaranteed minimum of $230 million during the term of the agreement.

"My administration has continued to seek public-private partnerships that enhance county services while saving taxpayer dollars," said Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano. "This contract is a milestone for Nassau County and a commitment to improving the quality of life for every resident. Working with Suez Environnement, we can look forward to a day when health is restored to our bays and our way of life in Nassau County which has all but disappeared makes a dramatic comeback."

"Through the National Public-Private Partnership Awards program, NCPPP recognizes those organizations and individuals going above and beyond to advance the concept and implementation of public-private partnerships across the country," said NCPPP President Art Smith. "We are proud to recognize innovators and leaders whose work serves as exemplary partnership models."
