WEFTEC.15: Fibrelite to feature composite manhole cover offerings at show

Fibrelite has announced that it will deliver a presentation on "The Best Use of Composite Covers in Stormwater Management Infrastructure" at the 2015 Water Environment Federation Annual Technical Exhibition and Conference (WEFTEC).

Aug. 4, 2015 -- Fibrelite, a manufacturer of composite manhole covers and underground containment systems, has announced that it will deliver a presentation on "The Best Use of Composite Covers in Stormwater Management Infrastructure" at the 2015 Water Environment Federation Annual Technical Exhibition and Conference (WEFTEC), taking place Sept. 26-30, at the McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill.

Fibrelite (booth 5617) will host the presentation in the Stormwater Pavilion during WEFTEC's 2015 Stormwater Congress on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 3 p.m., and will also be on hand to demonstrate the many benefits of its lightweight composite manhole covers and modular trench covers.

Composite materials are now widely used across industries as diverse as wind energy, boat building, aerospace, military defense, automotive and hazardous fluid transmission, and storage. Likewise, as technical demands on products increase, newer applications for composites have arisen with FRP composite products -- in the form of manhole and trench access covers -- now used worldwide to protect underground infrastructure.

Composite covers offer a number of advantages over traditionally used materials such as cast iron, steel and concrete. They are maintenance-free, durable and very strong as a matter of course and can be supplied to have no electrical or thermal conductivity.

Each Fibrelite cover is manufactured using high-technology resin transfer molding production methods to create a highly engineered monolithic composite product that provides the strength-to-weight ratio and can incorporate an anti-slip finish. Being lightweight, they are also easier and safer to handle and have no scrap or resale value, thereby reducing the risk of theft.

A prime reason for using FRP products is because of their inherent resistance to corrosion. While this means that composite covers are now an obvious choice where infrastructure is built to store or convey water, wastewater or corrosive liquids, they also come into their own where underground infrastructure may be prone to external corrosion (i.e., in coastal regions or colder climates where salt is commonly used as a de-icing agent).

Accordingly, by helping to reduce the costs incurred through corrosion, composite covers can allow utilities and other operators of underground infrastructure to improve the financial strength of their enterprises.
