Polk County's Central Regional Utility Service Area in Florida will be implementing a new 4-million-gallon-per-day water production facility that will help improve services for approximately 15,500 residents within the 19 square-mile service area.

WINTER HAVEN, FL, Aug. 20, 2015 -- Polk County's Central Regional Utility Service Area (CRUSA) in Florida will be implementing a new 4-million-gallon-per-day water production facility (WPF) that will help improve services for approximately 15,500 residents within the 19 square-mile service area.

Polk County continues to be one of the fastest growing counties in the State of Florida, with a population growth rate nearly three times the national average. The county currently owns and operates five interconnected WPFs within CRUSA. The new WPF will replace the five existing facilities and centralize the potable water system within this service area.

At buildout, the raw water for the new WPF will be supplied by four proposed raw water supply wells, and it is anticipated to include advanced water treatment technologies to ensure continued delivery of high-quality and regulatory-compliant potable water to its customers. Not only will this project improve the quality of life for local residents, the county is committed to incorporating this project into the existing landscape for a seamless visual transition.

Reiss Engineering, a civil and environmental engineering firm, is actively providing professional engineering services for the design, permitting and construction of the advanced facility. Further, the company is providing services to assist the County in implementing a regional WPF on an existing County-owned property west of US Highway 17 near Bartow, Fla.

The company's initial activities include the design, bidding and construction oversight of two water supply wells and completing preliminary environmental site investigations. In September, the two wells will go to bid for construction. In the fall, Reiss will use obtained water quality data to determine the optimum water treatment for the WPF. The preliminary design of the facility is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2016.

Reiss was selected for this significant project based on the team's extensive Polk County and regional technical experience, as well as the firm's solid reputation in Central Florida for expertise with advanced water treatment process design and pilot testing.
