Irish water treatment company, EPS, has joined forces with Dutch consultancy Royal HaskoningDHV to introduce the Nereda technology to three wastewater treatment plants (WWTP).

Located in County Cork, the second most populous county in the south of Ireland, Nereda is now in operation in one WWTP with two more plants under way.

The new plants have been designed to help Irish Water meet the requirements under the European Union Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive.

Using the features of aerobic granular mass (read WWi feature), the technology was invented by the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and developed in a public-private partnership between the University, Royal HaskoningDHV, the Dutch Foundation for Applied Water Research (STOWA) and the Dutch Water Boards.

Nereda plants are being built or in operation across the globe in countries including Australia (read WWi article), Brazil, India, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Switzerland and more.
