DENVER, AUGUST 2, 2016 -- The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) recently announced its 21st annual Design-Build Project/Team Award winners and the Davis-Woodland Water Supply Project, a new surface water treatment facility commissioned by the Woodland-Davis Clean Water Agency (WDCWA), received the National Award of Merit in the water/wastewater category.

In 2013, CH2M was selected for the $141 million contract to design, build and operate the new surface water treatment plant and other separate pipelines, delivering treated water taken from the Sacramento River to the cities of Woodland and Davis, as well as the University of California-Davis. The plant, completed in May 2016, is addressing water supply and quality challenges for these two cities, which previously relied on degrading groundwater supplies. The Davis-Woodland Water Supply Project supplies 30 million gallons of water per day toWoodland and Davis, providing a sustainable water supply that complies with state and federal water and wastewater quality standards.

"The Davis-Woodland Water Supply Project represents one of DBIA's best design-build projects of the year, effectively demonstrating how the project team went above and beyond achieving cost, schedule and quality goals, while showcasing unique applications of design-build best practices to raise the industry's bar even higher," said CH2M Global Water Business Group President Peter Nicol. "We are honored to partner with the Woodland-Davis Clean Water Agency on delivering and operating this exceptional project that is helping ensure two California communities produce high quality water and have access to drinking water supplies year round."

CH2M worked with the Agency and its project advisors West Yost Associates throughout the design and construction phases to develop a true design-build partnership and balanced risk approach to achieve significant capital savings and cost certainty. The Davis-Woodland Water Supply Project, which celebrated its official commissioning with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, July 28, highlights how design-build delivery achieved significant capital savings, cost certainty and 20 years of guaranteed water treatment and operations staff for the Agency. The project is now eligible for DBIA's National Award of Excellence in the water/wastewater category, as well as an overall Award of Excellence within the areas of architectural design, engineering design, process and teaming.

In addition to the recognition by DBIA, the Sacramento Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) also selected the Davis-Woodland Water Supply for a Project of the Year award in the Environmental (Water) category. This award, which was presented to the Project Team on Friday, July 29, recognizes public works projects that demonstrate excellence in management, administration, design, sustainability, construction and community relations, as well as the alliance among the managing agency and the consultant, engineer and contractor who worked together to complete the project.
