Stormwater management in Lexington, Ky, benefits from $400,000 in grants

Construction of rain gardens and bioswales are part of the projects that have received funding in Lexington, Ky, today.

LEXINGTON, KY, OCTOBER 24, 2016 -- More than $400,000 has been awarded to 11 Kentucky neighborhood associations for stormwater improvements.

The Water Quality Management Fee, a city stormwater grant program, is funding the projects, which range from installing rain gardens and rain barrels to public education about stormwater issues.

The Lexington Herald-Leader shared the full list of grant recipients, including the Seven Parks Neighborhood Association and Stonewall Community Association, which received $99,900 and $11,864, respectively, to install permeable paver driveways and/or rain gardens and rain barrels; and redesigning a drainage area.

An $31,033 education grant was awarded to the Living Arts and Science Center to support programs that focus on water quality, stormwater issues and water conservation, among others.
