Senators called the EPA’s WOTUS rule "an economic assault on small businesses, manufacturing and agriculture."

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA, NOVEMBER 22, 2016 -- Five Iowa Congressmen have written a letter asking President-elect Donald Trump to scrap the Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule when he takes office.

Republican senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst, and Reps. Rod Blum, David Young and Steve King authored the letter, calling the Environmental Protection Agency’s WOTUS rule "an economic assault on small businesses, manufacturing and agriculture."

The letter, addressed to the President-elect, stated: "We strongly encourage you to use all the tools at your disposal to free the American people from this blatant overreach. We also respectfully urge you to direct your EPA to craft a common-sense rule that clarifies the scope of the Clean Waters Act and does so by taking into consideration the input of all stakeholders.”

Iowa's sixth representaive, Dave Loebsack (D) did not sign the letter.

Currently, a U.S. Court of Appeals has issued a nationwide stay blocking enforcement of WOTUS. The representatives from Iowa say that a decision could take years, and that current standards could threaten the livelihood of Iowans.
