Badger Meter adds self-certification for EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Principles

The company's efforts continue its leadership in data privacy.

MILWAUKEE, WI, APRIL 10, 2017 -- Badger Meter, a leading global innovator and manufacturer of flow measurement, control and communications solutions, today announced it has self-certified its participation with the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework. The Privacy Shield program was designed by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the European Commission to provide data privacy standards for the transfer of data between European Union (EU) residents and U.S. companies in support of transatlantic commerce.

The Privacy Shield self-certification is the latest step in Badger Meter’s leadership in protecting its customers’ critical data. In 2015, the company obtained certification of its Information Security Management System under ISO 27001 and met the Service Organization Control (SOC) reporting framework of SOC-2.

"Our Privacy Shield participation confirms that we will comply with European Union requirements for transferring data between the EU and the U.S. It provides assurance to our customers in the European Union using our BEACON® Advanced Metering Analytics (AMA) solution that their data will be transferred to Badger Meter according to the Privacy Shield framework," said John Fillinger, director, utility marketing for Badger Meter. "Maintaining the security of our customers’ data, and respecting our customers’ privacy concerns, is a number-one priority for Badger Meter."

A growing number of water utility customers are choosing Badger Meter’s BEACON AMA software analytics solution because of its many benefits. Its cloud-based platform is hosted off-site by a leading global cloud services provider, reducing the need for utilities to maintain and update their servers and operating software. The BEACON AMA software is quick to deploy, does not require any hardware purchases, includes automatic software updates and can be scaled up or down as needed. It is subscription based, with utilities paying only for the number of endpoints in use. Utilities using BEACON AMA can deploy cellular communications technology that eliminates the need for costly fixed-network infrastructure, such as gateways. They can also engage their customers in water conservation through the EyeOnWater® mobile app that enables consumers to see and understand their water use on their smartphone or laptop.
