The American Society of Civil Engineers has released three new standards that provide updated guidelines for urban stormwater systems.
Gathered into a single volume -- Standard Guidelines for the Design, Installation, and Operation and Maintenance of Urban Stormwater Systems-- the new standards offer comprehensive guidance for the collection and conveyance of surface stormwater.
In this new edition, which supersedes the 2005 standards, numerous technical details have been added, drawn from original, practical research, particularly in the areas of hydrology, hydraulic design, and structural design.
Airport, road, and other transportation systems engineers, planners, and owners working with urban stormwater systems will find these new standards to be a valuable resource.

Finding the money to carry out much-needed water infrastructure projects can be difficult. But researchers from Stanford believe they can help.
The Stanford team has created a “Living Map” of innovative ways to finance water projects in the United States.
The map shows case studies of successful water financing efforts around the country designed to be implemented at various scales.
The case studies feature a wide variety of mechanisms -- some are market-based systems like credit and permit trading, others use grant funding, bonds, end-user fees, or a combination of all of the above.

The Bureau of Reclamation is making its water data publicly available and easily accessible through a new open data pilot project.
The Reclamation Water Information System consolidates and publishes water and related data from throughout Reclamation, providing a "one-stop shop" for tracking past and present streamflows, reservoir water releases, canal flows and other types of water data.
RWIS also features a web service that allows data retrieval to be programmed and automated for use in models and applications.
