American Water names environmental grant award recipients

Company announces nearly $168,000 in funding to 44 community improvement projects.

VOORHEES, NJ, AUG 21, 2017 -- American Water, the largest publicly traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company, recently announced the recipients of the company's 2017 Environmental Grant Program awards. The program offers funding for innovative, community-based environmental projects that "improve, restore or protect the watersheds, surface water and/or groundwater supplies in the communities it serves."

This year, 44 projects throughout American Water's service areas in nine states will be awarded a total of nearly $168,000.

"Each of these 44 organizations has made a commitment to make a difference within the communities we serve and we are proud to support these projects and the people behind them," Susan Story, president and CEO of American Water said in a press release. "After 12 years, our environmental grant program has provided more than $1.4 million of needed support for 413 projects to help improve, restore and protect our valuable natural resources through partnerships. We are very proud to work alongside these community partners and organizations to help safeguard our water resources."

Projects in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, West Virginia were awarded funding. For a complete list of winners, visit www.amwater.com.
