DETROIT, OCT 18, 2017 -- A judge has ordered officials in Flint, Mich., to choose a long-term source of drinking water by next week, according to CBS News.
U.S. District Judge David Lawson is quoted as saying the City Council so far has shown a "breathtaking" lack of leadership in its delays to find a long-term solution to the lead-tainted water crisis discovered last year.
"The failure of leadership, in light of past crises and manifold warnings related to the Flint water system, is breathtaking," Lawson said in his 29-page letter regarding the decision.
Monday, October 23, is the deadline for Flint to sign up with the Great Lakes Water Authority -- a plan backed by Gov. Rick Snyder and Flint Mayor Karen Weaver -- or come up with another long-term solution.
There was no indication what would happen if a decision was not met Monday.
