Purple water runs from taps in Sacramento, residents urged not to drink water

Residents in a portion of northern Sacramento are being urged not to consume tap water after an unknown substance reportedly gave it a purple tint.

SACRAMENTO, CA, OCT 18, 2017 -- Residents in parts of northern Sacramento are being urged not to consume tap water after an unknown substance reportedly gave it a purple tint, the Sacramento Bee reports.

Residents received a notice from the city of Sacramento’s Department of Utilities warning them not to consume tap water until further notice; and to wash dishes, prepare food and brush teeth with bottled water.

City officials said they will provide an update when the water is safe again.
