Odor control

Officials of ADAPCO Environmental Solutions (AES) have introduced VulchurTM, a new chemical product for the wastewater industry that can control both odor-causing bacteria and corrosion in wastewater systems. The product is designed to remove hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans from wastewater systems. It also reacts to form a corrosion inhibitor for concrete and metal infrastructure and equipment. The product is a direct drop-in replacement for caustic and bleach in wet scrubber systems. ADAPCO Environmental Solutions, Sanford, FL, 800-920-1001, www.vulchur.com

Watson-Marlow Bredel offers the heavy-duty SPX pump for challenging environmental applications. It reliably handles a variety of harsh materials, such as sludge and abrasive slurries. Advanced hose technology enables it to pump corrosive chemicals dependably for a long period of time. Peristaltic hose pumps are virtually maintenance free with no expensive seals to replace, no check valves to clog, and no rotors and stators to wear out. Unlike other pump types, the highly abrasive nature of lime slurries does not affect pump life. With the self-loading design, hose replacement is quick and easy. The FlooBed® bioreactor incorporates a Suspended Carrier Biofilm Process (SCBP) ideal for industrial applications such as pulp and paper production. The combination of a high-load bioreactor and a low-load activated sludge plant is an efficient and stable solution for improved industrial effluent treatment. It’s reliable and easy to operate and has been developed especially for industrial effluent treatment. Compared to conventional methods, this bioreactor tolerates higher variations in water quality and flow and still maintains its high treatment efficiency. Grindex is now launching Master Inox, the first model in the new pump series Inox. The series comprises three drainage and three sludge pumps in stainless steel. The new pumps originate from Grindex’ red Proline pumps, with the casted aluminium replaced by casted stainless steel. The stainless steel pumps are intended for use in corrosive applications with pH values from 2-10. Some examples are mines, process industries, harbors and leach water applications. Larox Flowsys has introduced the new LPP-D peristaltic pump offered in ½, ¾” and 1” sizes for the water and wastewater market. Corresponding flow rates are 2.6 gpm, 4.4 gpm and 8.8 gpm. It and the Larox LPP incorporate a unique low-friction rolling design. This allows: High flow per compression, enabling smaller pump selection; the roller design compresses hose only once per revolution, providing 2x-5x the hose life vs. conventional hosepumps; and low glycerin (96% less) requirement. Duplex strainer

The Model 570 Duplex Pipeline Basket Strainer from Eaton continuously protects system components in pipelines from 8” to 36” in size. It removes particulate matter from flow to protect valves, pumps, meters and other expensive equipment. The strainer’s hand wheel operates a sliding gate that permits flow to be switched between two straining chambers, allowing one to remain on-line while baskets are removed from the out-of-service chamber for cleaning. Use of four strainer baskets in each of the two chambers makes it easier for operators to clean baskets because each is much smaller and easier to handle than a single, large basket. This also reduces strainer size, making it ideal for installations where space is a problem. Eaton Filtration LLC, Elizabeth, NJ, 908-787-1000, www.filtration.eaton.com

Automatic grease interceptors

Lowe Engineering’s New GreaseStopper automatic grease interceptors (AGI) are designed to keep large amounts of pipe-clogging fats, oils, and grease (FOG) from entering sanitary sewers. Maintenance is easy. The removable screen basket separates and contains food scraps and solids. Grease is skimmed from the surface of the interceptor and drained into a bucket or barrel. This hourly or daily self-cleaning feature of the AGI keeps grease from accumulating allowing for greater efficiency than grease traps that merely store trapped grease.
