Engineering consultancy Royal HaskoningDHV will collaborate with equipment and process technology provider GEA to have its sludge dewatering decanter centrifuges certified for the Nereda technology.

As part of the agreement, the companies will collaborate in research and development to further improve the applicability of GEA’ssludge dewatering equipment to Nereda-specific conditions.

Nereda is a Dutch wastewater treatment technology developed by Delft University of Technology and Royal HaskoningDHV in cooperation with the Dutch Foundation for Applied Water Research (STOWA) and several Dutch water authorities.

Nereda treats wastewater with bacteria (aerobic granular biomass) that are designed to sink more quickly.

As part of the agreement, GEA shall invest in and further develop its sludge dewatering equipment for specific use in combination with the Nereda technology.

René Noppeney, global director water technology products & innovation, Royal HaskoningDHV, said: “With this agreement, we aim to make a significant step towards optimisation of the sludge line as well.”
