US firm Energy Recovery has secured a total of $5.5 million in new orders to supply its technology to desalination projects in India and the Middle East.

In India, as part of a $2.8m contract, Energy Recovery will supply its PX-Q300 Pressure Exchanger devices, which will produce up to 95,000 m3/day.

The PX devices will reduce power consumption for the projects by 12.4 MW, saving over 108 GWh of energy per year, and help them avoid 64,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year, the company estimates.

In a separate $2.7 million Middle East contract, the company will supply its PX-Q300 but also its PX-Q260 Pressure Exchanger devices for undisclosed desalination plants, which will produce up to 114,000 m3/day.

Energy Recovery estimates the PX devices will reduce the power consumption for the projects by 14.5 MW, saving over 125 GWh of energy per year, and help them avoid 74,800 tons of CO2 emissions per year.

Joel Gay, CEO of Energy Recovery, said: “As we near the end of 2016, we continue to fulfill our promise that this is a year of execution at Energy Recovery. We have committed to expanding our global reach in desalination, and these new deals in India allow us to offer our technology in a key emerging region that has a critical need for potable water. Following our recent awards in the Middle East, we continue to prove that Energy Recovery produces the world’s leading energy recovery technology.”
