SÃO PAULO, Brazil - Brazilian petrochemical giant Petrobras has awarded SUEZ a €6 million contract to provide desalinated water to 11 offshore oil platforms in the Campos Basin in the State of Rio de Janeiro.

As part of the agreement, SUEZ will provide seven mobile reverse osmosis desalination units with a capacity of 90 m3/day, including operation and maintenance assistance.

This is SUEZ’s first freshwater supply contract for offshore oil platforms.

In 2013 and 2014 SUEZ provided nine water treatment units (five sulphate removal units and four seawater desalination units) to supply process water to five floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) platforms of “pre-salt” oil reserve exploited by Petrobras off the Brazilian coast.

Ana Giros, CEO of SUEZ’s Latin America Business Unit said the company aims to provide support to the industrial water market and will strengthen this with the integration of GE Water.
