Perk Filter Receives Approval from Virginia DEQ

After comprehensive review, Perk Filter received a total phosphorous removal efficiency of 50% as required by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, and has been added to Virginia Stormwater BMP Clearinghouse website as an approved filter device. The Perk Filter is a stormwater media filtration device used to reduce pollutant loading in runoff from urban developments. In addition to the VA DEQ approval, Perk Filter has a general use level designation (GULD) from Washington Department of Ecology for both basic treatment and phosphorous treatment – requiring at least 80% total suspended solids removal and 50% total phosphorous removal. The Perk Filter is available in multiple configurations, including catch basins, vaults, and manholes, allowing the specifier maximum design flexibility.

Impervious surfaces and other urban and suburban landscapes generate a variety of contaminants that can enter stormwater, polluting downstream receiving waters. The Perk Filter captures and retains sediment, oils, phosphorous, metals and other targeted constituents close to the source and reduces the total discharge load to our water bodies.

Backwashing filter valve launched

Spanish manufacturer LAMA Filtration Systems has launched a cleaning valve, called GLOBO PLASTIC designed for the cleaning valves filters market. Designed to solve corrosive water problems, it is a three-way hydraulic valve, which is injected in glass-fiber reinforced plastic. The company said in designing the product, it used specific geometric shapes, designed to make it easier for the injection process. Produced in one piece the valve has been designed to withstand extreme pressure conditions and be used as a cleaning device before filtration systems. www.lama.es

Filtration plant shut down demands quick action

AUMA's rapid response for actuation support was demonstrated recently when a water filtration plant in New South Wales, Australia was shut down due to flood damage. In less than 24 hours after Gulgong WFP's call for assistance, a service engineer from the electric actuator manufacturer's local subsidiary Barron GJM Pty Ltd. was at the isolated site 300 km northwest of Sydney. The electric actuator requiring replacement was key to completing an essential backwash process required to maintain the WFP's operation. Within two hours, the damaged actuator was replaced and the plant brought back on line, providing critical water supply to the town's population of 7,500 people. www.auma.com

Filtration technology wins 2014 R&D award

The TEQUATIC PLUS Fine Particle Filter from Dow Water & Process Solutions (DW&PS) has been recognized as a groundbreaking solution for treating difficult, high-solids water. The filtration device helps process a wide range of difficult high-solids water, for industry segments ranging from industrial wastewater treatment and reuse applications in the food and beverage, pulp and paper, and textiles and laundry markets to oil and gas applications and mobile water treatment systems.

The R&D 100 Awards by R&D Magazine identify and celebrate the top technology products of the year. Past winners have included sophisticated testing equipment, innovative new materials, chemistry breakthroughs, biomedical products, consumer items, and high-energy physics.

With its patented design, the TEQUATIC PLUS Fine Particle Filter combines the power of continuous cleaning, cross-flow filtration with centrifugal separation and solids collection into one device. Unlike other technologies, it consistently treats water containing total suspended solids (TSS) up to 10,000 mg/L – even in the presence of fats, oils, greases and fibers, and in variable conditions without constant plugging – all while delivering a water recovery that is typically 99% or more.
