Lewabrane membranes stack up in Serbia

A total of 400 Lewabrane elements from Lanxess are now treating brackish water in a new industrial-scale plant in Serbia. They are being used to treat water from the Danube for a refinery in Pancˇevo operated by Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS). River water is pre-treated using flocculation and ultrafiltration before passing through three reverse osmosis trains, each equipped with 132 Lewabrane RO B400 LE elements. Each train is capable of treating 100 cubic meters per hour. The permeate is subsequently desalinated using a multiple-stage process with ion exchange resins from LANXESS. Just under 30 cubic meters of Lewatit exchange resin are used for this purpose.

Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) plant upgrade operational near Palace of Versailles

The Carré de Reunion wastewater treatment plant adjacent to the Palace of Versailles gardens is now fully operational. The treatment system was upgraded to a Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) system with 10 trains of Koch Membrane Systems (KMS) PURON MBR modules to process up to 96,700 m3/day of effluent. Wastewater treated at the facility will discharge into the small Ru de Gally stream, a side arm of the River Seine, which has its source in the palace gardens. It is owned by Le Syndicat Mixte d’Assainissement de la Région Ouest de Versailles. www.kochmembrane.com

Toray ultrafiltration membranes to help clean up Bangkok’s drinking water

Toray Industries has won an order to supply its hollow fiber ultrafiltration (UF) membrane modules to what is being called Thailand’s largest membrane water filtration facility. The 110,000 m3/day water purification plant is expected to start operation by 2017. Using TORAYFIL UF modules the membrane-based water purification plant will treat water from Tachin River, which is a tributary river of Chao Phraya River. www.toraywater.com

Filtration developed for automotive water reuse

Membrane Capacitive Deionization company Voltea, has recently introduced its CapDI technology into the automotive paint line industry for rinse water reuse. The deionization technology allows rinse water to be reused on the paint lines. Voltea’s IS systems claim the ability to reclaim up to 95% of pre-treatment wastewater from paint lines and other coating processes. To achieve the highest quality required of these coating lines, extremely clean water is mandatory. CapDI placed after conventional particulate filtration methods reduces TDS, the company said, enabling automotive and other coating manufacturers to reduce their municipal water demand while moving toward a zero waste liquid discharge goal.

InSight Analytics for RO water treatment systems

GE has launched its InSight Analytics - what it is calling an “Industrial Internet solution” that collects performance data for water plant operators. The first GE analytics available are for reverse osmosis (RO) membranes and condenser efficiency in heat transfer systems. InSight Analytics for RO is designed to help operators better management of their membrane cleaning schedules.

The other offering, InSight Analytics for condenser efficiency is designed for measuring condenser efficiency in heat transfer systems, offering real-time data normalization, even during peak production times, in a clear, simplified report. www.gewater.com
