WARRENDALE, PA, Feb. 23, 2006 -- USFilter was contacted by representatives working for the city of Detroit, MI. The Detroit Water and Sewer Department had recently experienced a sewer collapse, resulting in the need to bypass the sinkhole and deliver approximately 18,000 gpm of raw sewage a distance of one-half mile before entering a drop shaft. The concentration levels of H2S at the drop shaft ranged from 0 - 120 ppm.

Solution
USFilter provided an immediate, service- based response to contractors for the City of Detroit. An initial order was placed by the customer on Saturday and the RB units were on-site and operational by the following Tuesday.

USFilter's solution featured our Westates Carbon RB-series Rolloff Box activated carbon adsorbers. The RB units were shipped with 10,000 pounds of fresh Midas® OCM odor control carbon. Once the carbon's odor control capacity is exhausted, the rolloff boxes are removed by USFilter technicians and replaced with new RB units filled with fresh media.

Results
During the contract period, the client did not receive any odor complaints from the residents in the adjacent neighborhoods. Midas has been tested and typically achieves 99% removal of H2S and can easily handle average and spike concentrations into the hundreds of ppm.
