• Black & Veatch starts preparation for major Indonesian sanitation projects -- JAKARTA, Indonesia, Jan. 15, 2007 -- Black & Veatch, a leading global engineering, consulting and construction company, announced today it has started an assignment on behalf of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to assist the Government of Indonesia with the formulation of an investment loan to improve sanitation services in the country. With the country's urban population expected to explode from 101 million people (48% of the population) in 2005 to 160 million by 2025 (60% of the population), the project's goal is to decrease urban pollution, improve public health and enhance the well-being of the general population. The study will prepare city sanitation strategies (CSS) for five large cities and full feasibility studies for up to three of these cities. The CSS will allow communities to choose a sanitation system from an informed menu of suitable systems, subjected to feasibility. Black & Veatch also will prepare implementation support and institutional development programmes addressing sector reform, governance and public awareness. • USGS makes first annual 'Streamflow' study summary available -- DENVER, Jan. 12, 2007 -- This past year has produced some record-breaking high streamflow conditions in the Northeast, as well as some near-record lows in other areas of the country, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). In a new USGS publication, "Streamflow of 2006 -- Water Year Summary," changes in streamflow over the course of 2006 are examined relative to conditions over the past 75 years. Some areas of the country experienced higher streamflow than usual. For example, parts of New England recorded their highest annual flows since 1930. At the same time, below normal conditions were prevalent in Texas and other states in the central and southern Great Plains, parts of the Southeast, and Alaska. USGS plans to provide similar summaries every year...

• Pennichuck Water Works completes second phase of Nashua water treatment plant upgrade -- Pennichuck unit starts operations of Finished Water Pumping Station and Storage Tank -- MERRIMACK, NH, Jan. 12, 2007 -- Pennichuck Water Works Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pennichuck Corp. announced that, effective Jan. 5, it completed the second of the three major phases of its planned $40 million upgrade to its water treatment plant in Nashua, NH. The major components of the recently completed second phase include a new finished water pumping station, a new 6.5 million gallon finished water storage tank, a new backwash holding tank and new finished water chemical feed facilities.
