• Hydraulic Institute installs new board of directors at annual meeting -- PARSIPPANY, NJ, March 8, 2007 -- The Hydraulic Institute (HI) announced today its 2007 - 2008 Board of Directors and Officers during a general session of its 90th Annual Meeting held recently in San Antonio, TX.

The HI Board recently approved a new Mutual Cooperation Agreement with Europump, a federation of 18 national pump associations in Europe - renewing an agreement signed in 1996 and approved a new agreement with the Fluid Sealing Association, focused on a new HI Mechanical Seal Guideline and associated training courses.

• LAN professionals to speak at Texas Water 2007 Conference -- Largest regional water conference in the country will assemble industry experts -- HOUSTON, March 8, 2007 -- Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. (LAN) is pleased to announce that its Water Resources Manager, Floyd L. Marsh, will speak at the Texas Water 2007 Conference to be held at the Fort Worth Convention Center, April 10-13. • Hanwha International awards CFB steam generator contract to Foster Wheeler -- Foster Wheeler Global Power Group unit wins deal for three circulating fluidized-bed steam generators by subsidiary of Hanwha Chemical Corp. -- HAMILTON, Bermuda, March 8, 2007 -- Foster Wheeler Ltd. announced today that a subsidiary within its Global Power Group has been awarded a contract from the Hanwha International Corporation for the design and supply of three circulating fluidized-bed (CFB) steam generators for a chemical facility located in the Yeosu area of Southern Korea. Hanwha International Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hanwha Chemical Corporation, which is a leading petrochemical manufacturer and supplier in Asia. Foster Wheeler has received a full notice to proceed on this contract and the undisclosed contract value will be included in Foster Wheeler's first-quarter 2007 bookings. The three 100 MWe (gross megawatt electric) CFB steam generators are designed to fire bituminous coal. To burn this fuel as cleanly as possible, limestone bed material will be used to capture the fuel's sulfur within the CFB boilers. The CFB boilers will also be equipped with Foster Wheeler's advanced selective non-catalytic NOx reduction technology to minimize NOx emissions from the plant. Construction of the CFB boilers is expected to begin in the summer of 2007, with commercial operation of the plant scheduled for the end of 2009...

• Global consumption of biocides in water treatment jumps 40 percent in value in decade -- It was $226 million at active manufacture level in 2006 -- DUBLIN, Ireland, March 7, 2007 -- Research and Markets has announced the addition of "Biocides in Water Treatment Global Report - 2007" to its offering. This report provides in depth information on the market for biocide products within water treatment. The report develops forecasts for biocides from 2004 through 2009. It discusses the efforts of biocide manufacturers and formulators in launching new biocide formulations to meet changing market requirements, for example, build up of resistance, lower costs, regulations. It also provides an overview for biocides for each of the major geographical regions. It provides value and volume data for different biocides. In addition, the report provides a summary of each of the biocides being used to control microbes within consumer and industrial applications. • Laborers fighting for Clean Water Act Reauthorization, against piecemeal repeal of Davis-Bacon Act protections -- WASHINGTON, DC, March 7, 2007 -- The Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA) is working vigorously for reauthorization of the Clean Water Act, expected to face a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives on Friday. The union, with a half-million members predominantly in the construction industry, is also working to ensure that the billions in funding to preserve the nation's waterways is not used as a piecemeal repeal of family-supporting Davis-Bacon provisions. Davis-Bacon provisions require a wage and benefit floor based on a community's prevailing wages and help prevent contractors for federally-financed projects from undercutting local wage standards. While Davis-Bacon wage rates are almost always less than rates paid to union workers, they do prevent federal projects from driving down local standards. Some industry groups which want to see lower wages and fewer benefits for workers have long attempted to dismantle Davis-Bacon piece-by-piece by arguing the technicalities of funding sources. With the Clean Water Act, some groups are again arguing that because reauthorization will include funding from State Revolving Funds, the act should not apply...
• WaterPure signs Genco to distribute atmospheric water generators -- DOYLESTOWN, PA, March 6, 2007 -- WaterPure International Inc. announced today that it has entered into an exclusive agreement with Genco Power Solutions, Inc. of Pompano Beach, FL to distribute the WaterPure line of Atmospheric Water Generators. The WaterPure Atmospheric Water Generator (AWG) condenses water directly from the surrounding air treating it through a chemical free six-stage filtration and purification system.
