[Case Study, August 2009] -- Two villas next to each other on a hillside in Rovereto, close to Trient in Italy had been overcome with sewage problems in the very snowy Winter of 2008, due to the ever rising groundwater level.
The sewage system already available had the collector shafts, which are common in Italy, where the drain pipes joined together were not suitable for this amount of water and therefore needed relieving drastically.
Grundopit is placed inside the light well with a crane. To solve this problem a relief pipe HDPE ND 110 was to be installed from a collector shaft to the canal 40 m away. The plans of the contracting company GEOVIE, Meran (www.geovie.it) designated the application of a steerable HDD small bore system, Type GRUNDOPIT. A light well in the garden of one of the houses was to be used as the starting pit for the GRUNDOPIT to be accessed in both directions. The starting pit was deep enough and had ideal dimensions for the operation, so there was no need at all for the further excavation of a pit in the garden, which was difficult to access anyway.
The power pack TT B 20.The bore rig was positioned inside the starting pit with a crane and aligned towards the 2nd light well 12 m away. There was even sufficient space for the small hydraulic power unit TT B20 in the garden and therefore long feeding pipes were not required. The bore in the pebbly soil, including the pipe installation took just one day. Then the Grundopit was turned into the other direction to carry out the 28 m bore up to the canal. This bore was completed after 2 days. Over a total bore length of 40 m a height difference of 1,80 m had to be taken into consideration.
