SHANGHAI, China, July 19, 2010 -- The expansion of the plant, which manufactures trimethylolpropane (TMP), trimethylolpropane dimer (Di-TMP) and calcium formate (Cafo), will be undertaken in two phases. The first phase is scheduled for completion by the end of 2010 and the second phase by the end of 2011.

A prerequisite of the expansion is the installation of new technology in the wastewater treatment facility belonging to the plant. This facility, which was inaugurated at a ceremony attended by local officials today, will help further reduce the plant's emissions. LANXESS applied its advanced production processes based on German technology to create an environmentally friendly production site.

"The wastewater treatment plant in Liyang not only complies with all local and national regulations, but naturally has been designed to stay consistent with our company's global standards," said Dr. Hans-Detlef Heinz, General Manager of LANXESS (Liyang) Polyols Co, Ltd..

"I am impressed with the upgraded wastewater treatment plant at the LANXESS site in Liyang and its state-of-the-art technology for environmental protection," commented Han Jiuyun, the vice mayor of Changzhou city in Jiangsu province.

On September 1, 2009, LANXESS completed its acquisition of the chemical business and production assets of Jiangsu Polyols Chemical Co. Ltd. Subsequently, the legal entity LANXESS (Liyang) Polyols Co, Ltd was founded. The site is operated by the LANXESS Basic Chemicals business unit and the products TMP, Di-TMP and Cafo are used in lubricants, paints, coatings and construction applications. The Basic Chemicals business unit belongs to the LANXESS Advanced Intermediates segment, which posted sales of EUR 1.104 billion in 2009.

LANXESS is a leading specialty chemicals company with sales of EUR 5.06 billion in 2009 and currently around 14,300 employees in 23 countries.
