July 6, 2010 -- Mott MacDonald, in support of Temelsu International Engineering Services, has been appointed by the Project Implementation Unit for Water Infrastructures (PIU) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources (MAWR) of the Republic of Uzbekistan to assist in improving and rehabilitating the water management system serving the South Karakalpakstan irrigated area.

Mott MacDonald will provide MAWR and the Government Project Implementation Unit with consultancy services that will help inform the South Karakalpakstan Water Resources Management Improvement Project (SKWRMIP). This project lies within Beruni, Ellikala and Turtkul, three southern districts in the Autonomous Republic of Karakalpakstan. The irrigated areas are located in the former upper delta area of the Amu Darya.

Mott MacDonald has a long and successful track record in providing advisory services on all aspects of water resource management, from master planning and feasibility studies through to design and construction supervision and commissioning, operation and maintenance -- both in the UK and throughout the world.

Mott MacDonald's project director, Wim Verheugt said, "Through better water management the project will improve the environmental and socio-economic conditions of the region. Mott MacDonald has a wealth of experience in the water sector and we are delighted to be able to bring our knowledge and skills to this project."
